Glass paddle
Tom Milligan (1942 – Maori)
Before settling in the northern islands, the Maori had to brave the ocean that separated the southern island from the northern island. At the time they did this with handmade canoes and paddles. Tom Milligan's “Glass Paddle” is a work of art based on these handmade paddles. The blade of the paddle is made of glass and is machined with the tooth of the whitetip shark. The wood used is driftwood from the New Zealand beach.
