Eagle Head ‘The ancient Hokioi’

Todd Couper (1974 – Maori)

This art piece, The Ancient Hokioi, by Todd Couper represents the NZ eagle which has unfortunately gone extinct. NZ eagles lived in New Zealand and were the largest eagle species that ever lived. This art piece is carved out of one piece of Kauri wood which is the oldest type of wood in the world.

It has been buried underground for over 50.000 years and is therefore very rare. In 2018, this art piece was nominated for the Global Art Awards in Dubai.
